Sukla Yajurveda - Chapter 23

1. May the learned scholar of the four Vedas, free from the darkness of ignorance, fill us with virtues.


 


2. Body is strengthened by penance. Organs are also strengthened by penance. Vital breaths are invigorated through penance.


 


3. O seeker after knowledge, strengthen your body, walk in the company of learned, and serve them.


 


4. O seeker after knowledge, observe how learned persons are using fire and master the art of using fire. Observe how learned persons are using sun’s energy and master it. Observe how learned persons maintain air and atmosphere and master the art.


 


5. An idle slumber cannot defeat an active person with truthful speech even though he has wealth.


 


6.  The king and his subjects in unison, magnify the four stages of Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha, wherewith they reside happily in their country.


 


7. O King! Punish immoral men and women.


 


8. King realizes land revenue and spends it on their advancement.


 


9. A king must have control over his tongue.


 


10. O King! Like a man who takes a load up to the mountain, develop your subjects to excellence and use them for prosperity.


 


11. O learned persons, cooperate with your king in planned administrative actions. Always aspire for pure deeds.


 


12. A king who squeezes money out his subjects, and destroys his subjects cannot see his people thrive.


 


13. The king should be satisfied when many people are studying Vedas.


 


14. O unmarried girl! The wives of learned persons should educate you in the art of cooking and other family related issues.


 


15. A wife well trained in domestic economy and a husband well educated and full of noble qualities must be bound by the ties of affection and enjoy peace and tranquility for life.


 


16. O male and female students, may your teachers examine each joint of your body and eliminate the weaknesses.


 


17. O students! Teacher helps you like earth that gives various things you desire. .


 


18. The master of all four Vedas is the highest abode for Vedic speech.


 


19. O God! None besides you can comprehend this universe and all created creatures. Bless us to know a lot about them.
