Shukla Yajurveda - Chapter 18 - Selected Statements

Yajna means an important project. Veda repeatedly mentions the word yajna. As vedas are relevant for current life  as well as life after (as a  soul after)  the word yajna needs to be interpreted appropriately and contextually.

 

 

1. Yajnas helps increasing influence and pleasure.

 

2. Yajna (practice of religion: dharma) increases wisdom and honour and protects life.

 

3. I do yajnas to stregthen my body, I do yajnas to stregthen my house and I do yajnas to improve my resources and I do yajnas to take care of my old age.

 

4. Through yajnas, our children will prosper.

 

5. Through yajnas,  our knowledge will prosper.

 

6. Through yajnas only, our leader and our followers prosper.

 

7. Through yajna, we get well cooked and fragrant food.

 

8. Through yajnas,  our cattle will be healthy and give us the output.

 

9. Through yajnas only, we get bountiful harvests of rice, barley, beans, pulses, sesamum and kidney beans etc.

 

10. Through yajnas only we get abundant supply of fruits.

 

11. Through yajna only, houses are built and maintained.

 

12. Through yajnas only, artisans will produce various utensils and other items.

 

13. Through yajnas only beasts of burden like elephant, camel, bull etc are kept healthy and fit for work.

 

14. Food taken according to seasons strengthens the faculties of people.

 

15. The learned persons have to be given food and shelter and their longevity is to be protected for the benefit of mankind.
