Shukla Yajur Veda - Chapter 12

1. O learned person! You have action, contemplation, and learning to undertake. Acquire knowledge, do yajnas and attain to happiness.

 

2. O learned person! You know the law of cause and effect. Know the significance of various laws, control the air and utilise all earthly subjects for the benefit of mankind (universe).

 

3. Return to me (to the Lord after every birth) as a learned person with life well lived with worthy actions, with literary achievements, wisdom, wealth creation and progeny.

 

4. O scientist (person who knows the causes and effects)! You are filled with the delight of knowledge. Your visits to the earth and to me be hundreds and thousands. With each visit find knowledge that was not known before and increase the wealth of the universe.

 

5. O learned teacher! Save people from vices again and again. Provide them with noble resolves and inspire them to valorous deeds. Provide education that takes care of their nourishment.

 

6. O king! You should live among your subjects like the brilliant sun, who rises early and is in the sky before the dawn and provides light to all. You have to be a leader in providing the right path of duty to your subjects.

 

7. O child! Sit in the lap of your mother and learn from her all holy things. Never think of creating distress and grief for her.

 

8. O king! Learned persons constantly applaud and stimulate you. Similarly you have to stimulate your citizens by praising their good deeds.

 

9. Elect as a ruler, a person who controls his senses, is a leader in day-to-day activities like the sun who is up before everybody, a wise man, who earned good amount of money, and is now willing to help others by sharing his wisdom and wealth.

 

10. O learned persons! Marry a learned well behaved girl and make them happy and contented. You respect her and she respects you. Love your children just as your parents loved you.

 

11. O son! Keep away from vices with your force of  character and keep us also away from evil intentions.

 

12. O learned person! Serve the people with your knowledge and resources.

 

13. All learned persons have to keep themselves free of disease, and they have to spread education among all without malice to any one. The learned persons have to entertain high aims and achievements using their knowledge.

 

14. O teacher! Teach our son the eternal knowledge of Vedas; they grant success in all our actions.

 

15. O girl! Your father, mother and teachers impart you knowledge. Preserve that knowledge with iron determination. Use that knowledge to please people.
