Shukla Yajurveda - Chapter 19 - Selected Statements

1. O Comrade! The agriculturists produce food and give it to us for our services to them. Eat their food in a nice way.  They provide food to you for your knowledge of heaven and earth. Help them to grow more food and protect their produce.

 

2. By raising your children, you repay the debt to your parents.

 

3. Householders have to construct majestic houses for themselves. It is the duty of householder to construct a dwelling for himself.

 

4. The knowledge imparted to the pupils should be in consonance with their capacity.The yajnas or activities of yajnas assigned to pupils should also be consonance with their capacity.

 

5. The person who can make vessels becomes wealthy.

 

6. True noble words only get food on any part of earth for a learned man. Even between wife and husband, good deeds and words only develop good relations.

 

7. My great grand father, grand father and my father should bless me and aid me in living a full life of hundred years.

 

8. Our aged parents have to come again and again to our Soma banquet.

 

9. O Son! Learn from your learned fatherly teachers and lead a life as per your learning and spread pleasure in the world between the Earth and the Heaven.

 

10. The physician and his wife have to take care of the new born babies.

 

11. A learned doctor gives appropriate medical advice and will not allow lungs, liver, throat, kidney and bile to be affected by ailments.

 

12. A husband is a protector of the wife. But at the same time he lives with her happily like a child (He behaves like a child of her and she takes care of him as if he is a child).

 

13. A wife and husband have to give food to their parents and protect their embryo in the womb as well as their children. They have to do many noble deeds and income earning activities.

 

14. A person who maitains the cleanliness of food (suchi) with the knowledge gained from vedas,  uses knowledge to gain supremacy, and enjoys the company of learned persons to know more acquires happiness and salvation.

 

15. By doing a vrat, an act of performance successfully,  one becomes capable (daksh and deeksha). Capable performance of acts brings rewards (dakshina). Rewards increase the faith and by doing things with faith gives the true reward of the act.
